The first ordinations within the Confederate Sanghas of Aro were a novice ordination – an expression of devotion and commitment, but without the full Vajrayana vows and full damtsig with the Vajra Master. The three who took this ordination – Ngala Nor’dzin, Ngala ’ö-Dzin and Ralzhig Pema Legden – wore the maroon robes more commonly associated with monastic ordination at this time. However these practitioners quickly displayed their capacity and the depth of their understanding and devotion and were accepted as fully ordained disciples, in Vajra Commitment with Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen, and thereafter displayed the white skirts and ornaments of the gö-kar chang-lo.
